Description
Take the Seceda lift gondola up from Ortisei village and enjoy the spectacular view of the surrounding mountain groups: the Geisler and Stevia groups directly in front of you to the east, the Sella group to the southwest, and the Langkofel group to the south. On a clear day, you can see the glacier-covered Marmolada peak 25 km (15 miles) to the southeast. Then enjoy the long descent to Ortisei.
A number of trails depart from the top of the lift. The Seceda - Streda Plan da Tieja (1) is the singletrack directly in front of you. This ribbon of crushed rock passes through a wide open, grassy meadow high up on the mountainside. You'll enjoy long range mountain views as you descend towards the rifugio Pieralongia (mountain hut).
After about 1 km (0.6 mi), you'll reach an intersection. The trail
Seceda - Pieralongia (2B) continues to the rifugio Pieralongia. To stay on route 1, take the singletrack to the right towards rifugio Firenze which is a further 2.5 km (1.6 mi) down the path.
The rifugio Firenze is a major trail intersection, so take care to choose the right path. At the rifugio Firenze, the singletrack portion of route 1 ends but route 1 continues down to the main gravel mountain service road. Alternative you can take the singletrack
St. Jakob - Rifugio Firenze (4) down towards the valley or head uphill on the difficult
Rifugio Genova (3) trail.
From the rifugio Firenze, the gravel road continues at a steady descent down to the valley. This portion travels through forest and and passes a couple of serene mountain ponds. Once you pass under the lift, roughly the last km into town is paved, but if you're lucky you might find a heard of cattle being driven uphill towards you.
