Starting above Selva di val Gardena (Wolkenstein), this path climbs steadily up to the Forcella di la Roa (pass; 2617 m, 8586 ft) between the Geisler (to the north) and Stevia (to the south) mountain Massifs. The surrounding peaks are over 3000m (9800 ft) tall and stunningly beautiful.

The first 3.5 km (2.2. mi) is relatively easy although a steady climb. Much of this is on the main gravel road that services the numerous mountain huts in the area. You'll pass by a couple of mountain lakes along this segment. At the end of this, you'll reach the rifugio Firenze mountain hut, the first of many along the route. This rifugio is a good place to enjoy the surrounding peaks (as well as good meal and beverage) and serves as a major node for various trails.

Beyond the rifugio, the trail up to the Forcella di la Roa becomes increasingly steep and rocky. Beyond the pass, you can expect more rocky trail, including some rock scrambles. But you'll also be welcomed by the Medalges mountain hut as well as the Rifugio Genova mountain hut at the end of this track.
