Need to Know
Refugio San Marco was a private estate in 2018, but normally operates as a refugio.
Description
A well-marked and easy trail to follow. The first half is spent on a smoothish gravel and small rock path, winding through a low growth evergreen forest. It is steep but with nice views of the mountains when you look back to catch your breath.
It then transitions to older growth mixed forest with a less smooth but still very easy path. Finally, the last quarter mile or so you have reached the plateau where the pathway narrows at points, but the drop offs are still tree covered and not too steep. If the Refugio is open you can pop in for a refreshment or stay there if space is available or if you have booked a stay.
Considering all the great views in the Dolomites this is not the best spot to go and get a view. However, staying at Refugio San Marco would be really nice as it has a great view up on the ridge and can set you up for going into the Sorapis Range easily.
