Description
This trail starts at the trailhead and winds along the banks of Silvermine Creek. When you diverge from the creekbed, the trail begins climbing; soon you'll see an intersection where you can either continue straight, or go right (heading uphill).
Take the uphill section, and start your climb. You'll know you are in the right spot if you cross over a small creek on a double log bridge about 10 feet long. Continue your way up the hill; you'll be surrounded by rhododendron and towered over by huge pines.
At the top of the ridge, you'll come to the intersection of the Appalacian Trail. Turn right/straight and continue out to the overlooks at Lover's Leap. Either turn around and come back the way you came, or continue down the hill via the AT, and you'll end up at the other end of Silvermine Road (turn right after you come out of the river bottoms along the French Broad).
Flora & Fauna
Multiple varieties of woodpeckers, ferns, mushrooms, rhodies galore, and more species of tree than I can identify.
