Dogs Leashed
This trail leads to a secluded lake that not many people go to.
Need to Know
Expect a very steep section of loose rocks and switchbacks as you climb above Lake Urad.
Description
When you see the USFS sign-in box you'll know you're on the right path. Two large beams made crossing the creek a breeze.
This section of the trail has several steep switchbacks as you climb up the south side of Red Mountain. Look for a large patch of aspen, and as you leave them heading west, the grade decreases and the hard part is over.
You'll continue through tall pine woods. The trail is not bad but continually riddled with basketball-sized rocks to navigate around. As you come to the large stream on the left, you are almost to the lake. The ground starts to level out and there is a large 30 foot boulder sitting in the middle of the trees. Turn to the left, and the lake may be partially obscured by low brush. There is a log pile to cross the stream, and you have made it.
Enjoy the solitude.
