Description
Furnace Creek Trail is a short, blue blazed trail which runs from the Appalachian Trail (AT) at the top of the ridge down to the AT at the bottom of the ridge. The AT heads uphill to the Pulpit and Pinnacle, while this trail connects the top and bottom as it runs along Furnace Creek.
The trail can be accessed from Hamburg Reservoir parking lot by taking
Reservoir Road uphill past the Windsor Furnace site and the Hamburg Reservoir itself before entering the woods to run uphill alongside Furnace Creek in a hemlock forest.
At the top, it meets the AT near an open grassy field used as a helipad. Heading to the right on the AT will take one to the Pinnacle.
This trail is a can be used to make a nice loop with the
AT: Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club - West (PA) to see Pulpit Rocks and the Pinnacle.
