Overview
A great out-and-back run with great views of Devil's Causway and Causeway Lake.
Need to Know
This is a wilderness area therefore some trails are not well maintained, and there may be a lack of signage. Bring along a map if you are unfamiliar with the area.
Description
Start at the Stillwater Reservoir. From the trailhead, follow the
East Fork Trail #1119 as it heads north along the reservoir. Almost a mile in, there is a fork; stay right and follow the East Fork Trail into the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. About 1.5 miles in, you'll pass Little Causeway Lake on your left side. Continue on as you climb toward the ridgeline. About 2.5 miles in, you'll reach the ridgeline. Take in the extraordinary views!
At this point, you can head left up the ridge towards Devil's Causeway, a narrow land bridge that will certainly get your heart pumping! If you choose not to explore this short detour, head right and begin your descent into the East Fork Watershed. From here, the trail is a mix of smooth singletrack with more technical sections. About two miles from the ridge, Causeway Lake will come into view.
Enjoy the solitude, and don't forget your bug spray.
Flora & Fauna
