Dogs Off-leash
Overview
This route provides an alpine route to Black Lake and
Williwaw Lakes Trail from Glen Alps Trailhead.
Need to Know
Parking at Glen Alps is $5 per day or an annual AK State Park pass.
Description
Beginning from the Glen Alps Trailhead, this trail uses parts of the
Powerline Pass Trail and
Middle Fork Loop Trail to get to a signed fork. At the fork, you can go left to continue down
Middle Fork Loop Trail or you can go right to the O'Malley Gully. Going right, you'll quickly encounter a steep gully trail network that all lead up to the ridgeline.
Once on the ridge, continue east below the ridgeline through the open alpine area, commonly referred to as the Ballfield. Toward the end of the Ballfield, you'll see a small tarn on the right which is where you need to start looking for a small trail heading north, down into the Middle Fork Campbell Creek Valley. The trail forks along the side of the hill or down a scree slope. The scree allows for a quick descent down to the Campbell Creek Trail. Prior to the final descent, you'll encounter Black Lake.
This trail is rated intermediate/difficult due to the steep grade up the gully and scree descent.
