Description
This trail is the northernmost section of three areas (McFarland Park, Sopers Mill and Anderson Park) that one can section together (with some road connections) for a longer run.
There are access points at both the north and south ends of the trail, with parking. The north end is easily accessed by I-35, taking the E-18 exit (130th St). Turn west off the exit and the parking area is almost immediately on the left. Access the south access point by taking 150th St, 2000 ft to the west of I-35. Note, there is no exit off of 35 here so you'll need to take back roads.
Running from the north access point, you wind in and out of the woods, initially. When first coming out of the woods, look quickly to your left to go back in. You'll then run alongside the South Skunk River (which will be to the west of you). Take a gander at one of the small lookout trails and you might be surprised at how far down the river is.
Continue south on the trail, making a left at the next choice point (going straight will take you out into the field). This will eventually drop you down into the woods (my favorite part) where you'll cross at least two bridges and then eventually wind to the east and climb up and out onto the edge of the field. From this point on, much of the trail will be alongside the woods. Eventually you'll make a hard turn to the east, then south again, finally dumping out into the southern access point.
Horses are allowed on this trail so watch for poop.
