Need to Know
This trail is easily accessed from Avalanche Trailhead, which offers plenty of parking & restrooms.
Runner Notes
Not exactly a runnable route, but makes for an epic adventure if you descend down Yale's west side. Loop up to
Brown's Pass &
Kroenke Lake Trail & return via the CT for a challenging marathon (if starting at Avalanche TH).
Description
Expect a Class II - III climb as you make your way from the saddle west up the rocky eastern flank of Yale. From the top, enjoy great 14er views as you revel in your achievement.
Access Yale's east ridge from the Colorado Trail. The actual trail up the ridge can be a bit faint at the beginning, but it's fairly straightforward - once you gain the ridge on the CT, head west through the trees. You'll have a full view of the "trail" that lies before you. It's steep, rocky, & fantastic.
Pick your way up as you climb towards the summit. The route can be loose & rocky, so stay alert to avoid putting yourself in any precarious scenarios.
Flora & Fauna
Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk.
