Need to Know
Bring water and food if you plan on making this trail part of a loop or out-and-back from Zermatt.
Description
This trail section provides non-stop views of the Matterhorn and several glaciers feeding the Zmuttbach (creek) below. After a moderate climb, the trail maintains an elevation of around 8,500 feet for nearly three miles and is cut parallel into the side of the mountain.
The downhill section is gradual, but somewhat more technical with loose rocks and some wet sections where natural springs flow near the trail. The final descent is a bit steep but ends with a view of an amazing 100+ foot waterfall that has the Matterhorn as a backdrop.
Flora & Fauna
Numerous wildflowers along this trail. Very small but popping with color!
