Need to Know

Mattabesett Trail is part of the New England Trail, which is part of the National Trail System.

Rapid gunfire may be heard from the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden, located at the foot of the southern summit of Mount Higby.

Description

This is a CFPA blue-blazed trail.

This trail ranges in difficulty from an easy run to a few steep scrambles. Several sections provide viewpoints. Mount Higby's northern and southern summits provide views of the Hanging Hills and the town of Meriden. Caution should be exercised on the ridge sections, as runners have perished from falls along this trail.
