Overview
A loop trail running within the Brighton Ski Resort area, including sections of the
Great Western Trail. The loop circumnavigates Twin Lakes Reservoir, Lake Mary, and Lake Catherine.
Need to Know
You'll be connecting several trails, so be aware of the junctions and which direction you'll be turning.
Runner Notes
If you run with a water filter, you'll have significant access to water... otherwise, carry a large 2-3 liter bladder.
Description
The course starts at the bottom of Milly Express chair lift and follows the service road up to Twin Lakes Reservoir. The course then goes around Twin Lakes Reservoir counterclockwise. From here, the course jumps on a trail that will take athletes next to Lake Mary.
From here, the course joins the
Lake Mary Trail heading up the mountain. You'll reach the turn around and head back down. Along this trail you'll encounter what we call the "Sand Wall" (we highly recommend gaiters).
The course will take a right on the trail and go around Lake Catherine. After going around Lake Catherine, you'll continue back down the same trail to Lake Mary. Once back at Lake Mary, the course will turn right and here you'll follow the trail to Clayton Peak. When the course meets up with Western Trail, the course turns left and heads toward the Great Western Express chair lift.
The course turns left down Elk Park ski run. The course follows Elk Park ski run and then jumps onto the Golden Needle ski run. The course will go by the Snake Creek Express chair lift and run down Snake Creek Rd (service road). Once at the bottom of the trail the course turns left and follows a trail next to the parking lot
Flora & Fauna
You'll likely encounter deer, moose, and millions of squirrels and birds.
