Need to Know
Dorothy, Christine and Virl Lakes Trail can be found on the north side of the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16) about 6 miles west of Jasper. Turn north on a dirt road just west of the Meadow Creek bridge for the trailhead sign and parking area.
Description
From the trailhead sign, run down the dirt road a very short ways to a path up a steep embankment to railroad tracks. A hiker/multi-use sign points the way up this path. Cross the railroad tracks and embark on the trail pointed to by another hiker/multi-use sign.
Almost immediately, Dorothy, Christine, and Virl Lakes Trail crosses the Miette River on a sturdy bridge and enters the fir forest. In the forest, the trail climbs gradually for the first mile, then descends a bit to cross a creek at the 1.4 mile mark, and returns to its gentle climb. A trail junction is reached at the 1.65 mile mark. Go right here to continue on Dorothy, Christine and Virl Lakes Trail.
At the 2.2 mile mark, a side trail on the right is passed. This is the
Virl Lake Spur #60a that takes one to Virl Lake, the first of the three lakes, Continue straight to get to the other two lakes, Dorothy Lake and Christine Lake. Dorothy Lake is on the right at the 2.5 mile mark, and the trail ends at Christine Lake after another 0.1 mile.
