Runner Notes
With its gradual climb and extended route options at the end of the trail, this would make for a good trail run for any level runner. The elevation may be a factor but overall the grade is pretty easy most of the way up.
Description
If you are taking 285 South, turn left onto County Road 18 about a mile south of Fairplay. Take CR 18 for about 3.3 miles and you'll see the trailhead parking lot on your right. There isn't much signage here, but take the trail that leads straight out of the parking lot.
The trail slopes gently uphill as you climb steadily over the course of the 2.5 mile run. It begins in a more open field area with fewer trees and gradually makes its way into tree cover. The trail is easy terrain for any runner. There are some rocks and roots along the way but it is very smooth otherwise and pretty well maintained. It is singletrack width most of the way up.
Stay left at the fork about 0.8 miles in and continue uphill. You'll eventually make it to the end of this trail at Thompson Park Rd. From here you can run around on the forest service roads up on the ridge, or turn around and head back to your car.
