The trail starts off from the Ramsey Canyon Preserve facility where patrons are introduced to the canyon. Soon runners will encounter a well maintained yet steep section of switchbacks before descending farther into the canyon. Runners eventually encounter a fork in the road where if one continues to the right, the Hamburg Trail will end upon the three-way stop of the Crest Trail.
