Need to Know
There are two starting points for this trail, each side of parking lot. The red blaze is 2.2 miles and parts of the trail may be inaccessible due to flooding.
Description
This trail is the primary running access for the Econ River Wilderness Area. This dumbbell-shaped loop leads through different areas of the park and along the Econlockhatchee River at the eastern edge and is a mix of single and doubletrack blazed with red arrows.
The trail starts at the northern edge of the parking lot on Old Lockwood Road and leads through the undergrowth for about a third of a mile before joining a fire road. Shortly after this junction, keep an eye out for the beginning of a short boardwalk over a swampy area. The original trail signs point to a section of the trail that is usually under water and the newer boardwalk is a nice detour to keep your feet drier.
After about a half mile, the trail splits again into the eastern portion of the loop. The far eastern portion of the trail has several points where you can reach the banks of the river. The southern portion of the loop skirts the property edge and some power lines. After returning to the center section and crossing the boardwalk, the southern section of the western loop primarily continues to follow the dirt road and eventually returns to the southern edge of the parking lot.
