Mountain ultra hundred in Steamboat Springs with amazing views and aspen groves.
Description
Course starts at the resort and immediately climbs straight up several steep ski runs before peaking at Mt. Werner. From there, there is a gentle rolling section to Long Lake. Exiting the Long Lake aid station, runners will then descend down Fish Creek Falls Trail to the parking lot, then turn around ascend back up to the Long Lake aid station. From here, the race takes you along the Wyoming Trail, part of the Continental Divide Trail, traversing alpine meadows at around 10,000 ft.
At the Summit Lake aid station, runners will then descend briefly down a jeep road before returning on singletrack to the Billy Rabbit aid station. The gentle descent continues on many switchbacks with a brief stop at Dry Lake aid station. This is followed by a long gradual descent down Spring Creek trail to enter town and into the Olympian Hall aid station. Runners are then taken on a 14 mile figure of eight route up and around Emerald Mountain before returning to Olympian Hall.
From here, runners begin a long ascent back up to Dry Lake aid station and then steep technical ascent on a different trail before returning to Bill Rabbit and then Summit Lake aid station. From here, runners will retrace their steps along Wyoming Trail back to Long Lake, followed by Mt.Werner, and then a 6.4 mile descent on a wide ski trails back to the Steamboat Springs basecamp.
