This description begins at the northern and trickiest trailhead. Around 2.5 miles into your trek on South Fork Citico Creek Trail #105 and shortly after the first ford, you'll come to a signless post. This is the official trailhead but you'll not find the trail here. You can either cross the south fork here and bushwhack around 30 yards downstream, or run back down the trail and find the hole through the rhododendron directly across from the trail, and cross here. Look for a path cutting its way up through the overgrown dog hobble just upstream from the mouth of Eagle Branch.

The trail continues to follow this stream in the lower section. Around halfway up, it leaves Eagle Branch behind and follows its smaller namesake instead. Logging remnants can be found littered throughout the area.

The upper section of the trail is clearly more traversed as it is easily accessed from Grassy Gap on the Cherohala Skyway and has seen more maintenance. Though still not clearly marked, it is a little easier to follow despite the increased incline. It is also, due to ease of access, somewhat vandalised and trashed. The uprooted trail marker sign here reads "19" instead of "91".

McNabb Creek Trail #92 also has a trailhead at Grassy Gap on the opposite side of the skyway.
