Need to Know
The Collegiate Peak Overlook has vault toilets (a day fee is required to park here)
The parking area above the Overlook (Midland TH) has portalets available in summer months.
Runner Notes
Great trail for running & makes a great 5k loop when
Django Trail #6033 is added in. Running the loop is good in either direction, but flows a little better when running clockwise.
Description
Fistful of Dollars can be accessed from either the top or bottom of the trail (day use fees apply is parking in the lower lot).
Starting in the upper parking lot on CR304 (Midland TH), look to the southwest to find the start of the trail. Views of
Mt. Princeton dominate the skyline, with views of Mts. Antero & Ouray prominent to the south.
The trail itself is straightforward & easy to navigate. A couple of well-marked intersections provide the option of exploring additional trails & creates some loop options. In typical BV fashion, you'll run through plenty of sandy areas & rock. Keep an eye out for lizards bathing in the sun. The trail terminates on CR304, near the Collegiate Peaks Overlook.
For a great loop, cross CR304 & head back up
Django Trail #6033. Once you top out on
Django Trail #6033, turn left & take the CR376a back to the parking lot, or
Bacon Strip for a little more (.3 miles) trail.
This is also a popular area for mountain bikers & equestrians, so stay alert!
Flora & Fauna
Deer, lizards, & mountain lions.
