Overview
Everyone can enjoy one of the most green provinces of Armenia. This trail offers unbelievable mountainous views and the fresh air make for a breathtaking and invigorating trip. On the way of this trail, enjoy the rare endemic species typical to Armenia, mainly to region.
Need to Know
Potential failures in the communications connection is quite possible in the gorges, nearest residential areas. On the peaks of mountains there are telecom antennas, thus Ucom and MTS Armenia telecom connection is available. In the case of any emergency situation call 911. Beware of dogs guiding the sheep.
Description
The trail starts from Charchakis Village of Aragatsotn Province. From Aparan City take a taxi to the Charchakis Village. There is no public transport. Taxies throughout Armenia are quite affordable, but please use the taxi in which the counters are installed. The cost of the taxi for 15 km varies between AMD 1500-2000.
The trail starts from the church located in the center of Charchakis Village. Leaving the last settlements of the village, it begins to climb the winding path, passing through the green meadows and blue flowers.
Return trip: Roads in Lernapat Village are not renovated, so please do not order a taxi on the way back. An alternative option is to hitchhike to reach the Vanadzor-Spitak Highway, then request a taxi.

How to get to the trail:
The above-mentioned trail starts from Charchakis village of Aragatsotn Province. Taxies throughout Armenia are quite affordable. Please use the taxi in which the counters are installed. Other transportation means: bus/minibus from Shirak street, Yerevan, minibuses in Aparan move every 30 minutes. From Aparan city take a taxi to the Charchakis village. There is no public transport.
Flora & Fauna
Aragatsotn Province has numerous environments including semi-desert, dry mountain steppe, alpine zones, and snow-capped peaks. Rivers flowing through the grass-covered plains and gorges create beautiful waterfalls. People from different places come here to see Aragats, to enjoy the mountain ranges and the meadows decorated with multicolored flowers. Here there are blue gourds and alpine violets. The meadows are full of fragrant flowers, violet, wild lilies, poppies, bells, and so on.
In Aragatsotn Province there are rare cats, rabbits, bears and foxes. In the summer you may also see lizards and snakes.
History & Background
Memorial Park is named after Mesrop Mashtots. The Armenian Alphabet Monument is located in Aragatsotn Province, on the left side of Yerevan-Aparan Highway, in Artashavan Village and on the eastern slope of Mount Aragats.
Saghmosavank is located in Saghmosavan village of Aragatsotn province. It is located on the edge of the deep canyon of the Kasagh River. At the back of Saghmosavan, the giant is the Arai Mountains. On the western side of the church is Mount Ararat. The northern part of the church is Mount Aragats, the highest in Armenia (4095 m).
