The trail is open year-round but is best visited on a clear day.
Description
The trail (which is part of the Oregon Coast Trail) to the viewpoint starts at House Rock Viewpoint parking area, just off of Highway 101, at milepost 351. From there, it contours its way south through deep forest, low trees, and brush, and then out across open, rolling, grassy bluffs to the tip of the Cape. Be careful of getting too close to the Cape's edges; they are not as solid as they look and it's a long drop into the ocean. The Cape offers (on a clear day) big views both north and south along the coast and out to sea. It is also a great spot for sunsets and for whale watching in fall and spring.
You can either return the way you came back to the House Rock Viewpoint or, if you've arranged a shuttle, back-track about 0.25 miles, and then follow the Oregon Coast Trail for about 0.5 miles south to the parking lot at the Lone Ranch Picnic Area. You can also access the beach from here.
