Description
Points of Interest along this section: This section crosses Coker Creek on a wooden bridge, then ascends a ridgeline up to TN68 on a moderately steep but well graded trail with views of the surrounding mountains and the Hiwassee River.
Trail Description: From the campsites at the end of FR 22B (WP 25) along the edge of Coker Creek at mile 120.5, the trail heads out the north end of the last campsite along the edge of Coker Creek, then crosses Coker Creek on a long wooden trail bridge. After crossing the creek, the trail turns right and heads up the edge of the ridge along the creek, crossing over a gap and intersecting with the Unicoi Mountain Trail at mile 120.9 (WP 30). Turn left up the Unicoi Mountain Trail and ascend gently to moderately up the ridge to the top of the mountain at mile 122.7 to a somewhat flat area. The trail then gently descends the ridgeline to TN 68 at mile 124.5 (WP 29).
Campsites: Camping is available at Coker Creek in primitive established campsites without potable water or toilets. LNT camping also can be found most anywhere along the trail but there are no designated campsites.
Water Sources: Water is available reliably only at Coker Creek (WP 25, D) along this section and must be sterilized. There is a stream crossing along TN 68 (WP 31, D) about 0.2 miles to the right (south) from the trail crossing. The next available water is at Unicoi Gap (WP 32, B), another 4.7 miles up the trail. So tank up at Coker Creek or along TN 68.
