Need to Know
Portland is the largest town nearby, and is located at the eastern end of the loop. Nelson, is at the western end, but is very small and shouldn't be relied upon for major supplies. Mount Gambier is a little further away to the west and is similarly sized as Portland.
Runner Notes
Bring plenty of water, as there is scant quantities available along the trail.
Description
The trail can be done in either direction. It can be done as a whole loop or in sections. There are many campsites along the way to facilitate overnight stays for backpacking, fastpacking, and running. Overall, there are very few climbs, and the trail is pretty flat. RunnerS will encounter long beach sections which can be more or less difficult depending on the tides. There are great views over Glenelg River and Bridgewater Bay, and runners will enjoy varied scenery from coastal to native bush to grasslands and pastures to pine forests and some small sections through towns.
