There are a number of locals "stores" along the way - generally not marked - where you can obtain some food, water, beer etc. There is also a small village compete with a small church, square etc where more supplies might be had. Carry enough water and have good filters.

After a short stint on the "road" we head north winding up a valley on a local pathway. Parts are very rocky through the first crest, then downhill over rocky terrain to a dry river. After crossing the river the faint pathway ascends very steeply mostly over solid rock about 450 feet in a quarter mile.

After crest that challenge we followed the dirt road through several small towns to our camping spot in Luracatao.

Runners may want to camp half way on many spots along the way.

Past our stopping location one could continue over several days to reach Chile through high mountain passes used 100+ years ago to transport cattle to Chile. This was also one of the routes on the southern end of the Inca Trail.

This is mostly high alpine desert but there are all the Andean creatures one might expect.
