Overview
The race begins at Pinnacle Park in Sylva, NC at the end of Fisher Creek Rd. Runners will run up the
West Fork Trail past Pinnacle trail and then past
East Fork Trail. Runners will then climb the 0.6 mile grueling singletrack to the summit of Black Rock at 5,800 feet. Runners will turn around and run down taking the
East Fork Trail back to the finish. If you complete the course in 101 minutes or less, you'll receive the coveted special award.
Description
Trail running is extreme, and trail running in Sylva, North Carolina is no exception. How does running a seven-mile mountain trail race with 2,770 feet of elevation gain sound? Trail runners who compete in the Assault on Black Rock trail race will summit Black Rock at 5,810 feet—and that's just the halfway point of the race.
The trail race weaves through the spruce forests along the spine of the Plott Balsam Mountains on challenging rocky/dirt roads and singletrack. The final climb to the summit ridge comprises of 650 feet of elevation gain in 0.3 mile on steep singletrack.
