Triassic Trail starts at a small parking area along the road down into Palo Duro Canyon. It starts off through the grasses on the flat canyon rim. The canyon with Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River at the canyon bottom, is to the left/east of the trail. The trail heads towards the canyon edge and travels along it for a ways. Overlooking the canyon, the views here are great. At about the 0.15 mile mark, the trail veers away from the canyon edge and meets up with CCC Trail at the CCC Trail midpoint.

Mostly grasses, dirt and rocks.
