Overview
The orange/blue trail is the best way to get to the ledges via the
Metacomet Trail. The trails on the south side of the lake are better marked, more popular, and usable year-round while the north side is wet in spring.
Need to Know
Trail is best in winter when frozen or in fall when dry. Areas along north of lake are wet.
Description
Park at Town of Southington park boatlaunch area. Follow the orange/blue blazes along the trail located at end of parking lot by the kiosk. The trail reaches the blue-blazed
Metacomet Trail at a junction with a dirt woods road. Follow the woods road up a sharp incline. When the road levels off, follow the
Metacomet Trail into the woods on the left to reach ledges overlooking Crescent Lake. The trail follows the ledges and then descends steeply.
Orange blazes showing the return trail begin at the bottom of the steep ledge and the trail turns back toward lake while the
Metacomet Trail turns away from lake at this junction. Follow the orange-blazed trail downhill towards the lake and through the wet area on north side of the lake until the trail reaches the junction with Shuttlemeadow Road. Follow Shuttlemeadow Road back to parking area.
