Features
-none-
This snowshoe route is not generally used as a summer running trail.
This trail is for winter use only when snow covered.
Overview
This sheltered route is popular on the coldest days. There is a great view of Lake Melville from the hill descending into
Games Trail quarry.
Need to Know
There is ample parking and a fully serviced chalet.
Description
Cross in front of the chalet and access
Snowshoe Trail C1. Follow C1 trail to the intersection of
Snowshoe Trail C3.
Snowshoe Trail C3 crosses a narrow footbridge (Katima Bridge) over Birch Brook. As the name implies, it was placed by Katimavik volunteers in 2010 and it's still in good shape.
Snowshoe trail C3 crosses
Brook Trail, follows a wooded path, crosses
Rabbit Run, and enters a portion of an abandoned ski trail. At the top of the ridge, branch onto
Snowshoe Trail C4, which meanders beneath tall spruce trees. The trail crosses
Rabbit Run and follows a very narrow path where there are branches to dodge as the snow gets deeper.
The path crosses a connecting ski trail between
Rabbit Run and
Games Trail, briefly goes back into the woods and then crosses
Games Trail to join
Snowshoe Trail E1 at the top of the hill leading to
Games Trail quarry.
Snowshoe Trail E1 leads back to the old log cabin and nearby Katima Bridge, and from there, retrace the trails C3 and C1 back to the chalet.
History & Background
The old log cabin was Birch Brook's club house before the new chalet was built.
