Need to Know
You need to ensure you have plenty of water and food for this section. There is cell coverage over most of the area. From mile 11 to 25, there is private land on both sides of the trail and no vehicle access.
Runner Notes
The trail is well maintained, but there are some clumpy grass and wet trail sections.
Description
As with much of the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST), this section is mostly flat with little elevation gain. The trail is a combination of singletrack, doubletrack, and some hard packed sandy road. Depending on the time of year, it could be flooded, and you may have to follow a high water route. The trail is well marked with orange rectangle blazes. The area around the Kissimmee Prairie Park Preserve is wide open and covered with tall grasses and saw palmetto. The area is also considered a dark space and at night the sky is amazing.
Flora & Fauna
You'll see a myriad of animals including, alligators, hundreds of types of birds, wild hogs, turkeys, and other small mammals. Plants include sable palms, oak hammocks, pine trees and wild citrus trees.
