Auburn State Recreation Area - China Bar area is currently open 8 am to sunset.

Need to Know

Paid parking is available at China Bar, free street parking is farther down Maidu Drive.

Runner Notes

Popular for trail runs. Mind the occasional steep sections that are slippery during the rainy season in spots.

Description

The trail weaves in and out of the Pioneer Express Trail, Shirland Canal Trail, and the similarly named but steeper Cardiac Trail. Nice views! Foot and bike tire traffic share this one.

Flora & Fauna

Old growth manzanita chaparral, oak woodlands, creek and riverside riparian. I saw amphibians in the canal on my visit.
