Biking is not permitted on the boardwalk portions of this trail.
Need to Know
Bikers should beware that there is a large set of steps at the start of the greenway portion that immediately follows the residential area. From that location, the paved greenway stretches briefly until reaching a boardwalk where biking is not permitted.
Description
You can begin your hike, walk, or run at the trailhead at Jaycee Park. From there, you'll follow the sidewalk on 12th St and then cross the street to turn right to follow the sidewalk onto 17th Ave. You'll take a slight left onto 10th St Blvd, where the entrance to the paved greenway portion of the trail will begin at the road's end. There will be a large set of steps to walk up and you'll now be in Glenn C. Hilton Jr. Memorial Park.
From there, you'll walk on boardwalks across a cove of Lake Hickory - a great area to look for wildlife. The trail ends at a grassy area in the park, where you can also find playgrounds, a memorial garden, many picnic areas, and other nice amenities.
Parking is available at the trailhead at Jaycee Park and Hickory City Park (1515 12th Street NW Dr. Hickory, NC 28601). Additional parking is also available at Glenn C. Hilton, Jr. Memorial Park (2000 6th St NW, Hickory, NC 28601).
