Overview
Beautiful run up to (or take cable car up) and around a high mountain valley with seven lakes, east of Zermatt. Some lakes show nice reflections of Matterhorn if the weather cooperates. Return down to Zermatt by a cable car.

Description
The run starts southeast of Zermatt, climbing steadily through forest and meadows to a little community with a couple of mountain huts with great views, where you can have a fruit pie or a full breakfast. This is the beginning of the high mountain valley, with about half of the total elevation gain done.
The trail becomes much less steep, passing lakes Mosjesee, Gruensee, Grindjesee, and a couple of nameless ones.
From Grindjesee, you can either go up to Stellisee (another 200m/600ft higher) set in a high meadow full of wildflowers in season and more views, or turn west on what looks like a flattish trail passing Leisee on the way to the cable car at Sunnegga.
Flora & Fauna
In the spring there are many wildflowers—whole meadows of them in places. With luck, you may see birds, mountain goats, and cows too.
