Need to Know

Check the cable car schedules here. Check the weather before.

Description

Take the Fiesch - Fiescheralp cable car up (and down in the end). Follow the route preferably in clockwise direction (starting southwest from the lift) for better views of the glacier. The trail is wide and sandy until the highest point and then turns northward. Here you get the first view of the glacier.

The trail narrows and becomes rocky and uneven, descending among boulders and crossing some wet patches depending on season. In the NW corner of the trail you can go down to the glacier edge.

A half a mile on, you can have a lunch at Gletscherstube Marjelen. From here, a side trail leads to the Platte viewpoint up the glacier and the Monk (of the Jungfrau fame). After lunch, continue upwards with views of the Fiescher Glacier across the valley before the northeast point of the trail. Here the trail turns south and traverses the eastern slope downwards toward the lift station.

An alternate return is southward from Gletscherstube Marjelen more directly via a tunnel (but you'll need a flashlight!).
