Dogs Leashed
Overview
The Stringer Ridge Blue Loop is a directional run made up of the
Hill City,
Gig City and
Double J trails. Follow the blue blazes on
Hill City and
Double J.
Gig City is blue and red blazed.
This loop is multi-use for pedestrians and mountain bikers. Bikers and pedestrians generally travel in opposite directions, directional signs are posted at the start of each trail. The direction changes by day of week.
Need to Know
There are two bathrooms and a water fountain at the Spears Ave trailhead, which automatically lock at dusk. There is a release button inside the bathroom.
Runner Notes
Footing is generally easy with limited rocks and roots.
Description
The trails are singletrack, mainly dirt with some rock and roots. Downed trees are removed from the trail. Dogs are allowed, tend to be mainly off leash.
The trail is very easy to follow, there are two main intersections, the first on
Double J and
Gig City, the second at
Gig City and
Hill City. Cherokee Trail is a brown blaze that cuts between these trails and is crossed at each intersection. There are a few climbs with switchbacks and blind corners for bikers. Nice plateaus between the uphill sections. The trail is mainly shaded with a few pockets of sun.
Flora & Fauna
Lots of vegetation, including English ivy, poison ivy, large and small tulip poplar trees, sassafras, amur honeysuckle, wild ferns and much more. Small mammals like squirrels and chipmunks. Lots of birds in the trees such as red-bellied woodpecker, Carolina chickadee, and eastern towhee.
