Dogs Leashed
The parking area at Dry Gap is a small, mostly flat, cleared area. This is about the midpoint of a longer run coming from the east. It'll fit about six medium size sedans.
Need to Know
There are no toilets at parking area and no drinking water.
Runner Notes
The trail is mostly narrow and quite rocky in places. It's less like running on a graded dirt road and more like hopping from spot to spot to avoid rocks and roots.
Description
This is the Tuscarora:
Eagle Rock Trail. Starting at Dry Gap, follow the blue blazes. As the trail is very rocky in some places, you'll have to be surefooted to avoid rolling an ankle. It is mostly narrow but widens in some places, and it is well-shaded.
About a half mile (0.8 km) up, there is a fork in a saddle. Go right. Just over half a mile more and you're at the rock. There is a concrete bench.
If you start later in the morning or in the afternoon, you are likely to run into other groups, often with small children as the shortness of the trail is suitable for kids.
