No running along the trail as it is a docent led hike.
Description
You meet the docent guide at the Fishermans Memorial. From there you head up Diablo Canyon Rd. to a locked gate where the docent lets you through and locks behind the group. This immediately leads to a series of switchbacks and a steep climb to a paved road. The paved road is followed for about 0.5 miles to the highest elevation of the trail. This is where you'll get back on a dirt path, starting with a very steep descent. There is a stop or two on the descent to take a break if needed. The trail then follows the cliff along the bay taking you through mostly covered terrain. At about 1.5 miles you'll come out to a viewpoint overlooking Avila Bay and the trail is fully exposed. The docent will then guide you down to the lighthouse from this point.
