Bring water. There is one really steep part that has rock stairs that gives way to a steep slope (red rock). We missed it on the way up, but there are switchbacks that you can use if you dont want to scale the slope straight.

For the most part, the footing is solid. I am an avid runner/OCR and I'm not sure I would want to run this trail. It is a serious climb.

We parked near the beach. The trailhead is tucked in on the left side as you drive in.

This is an out-and-back. It seems like most of the advertised scenic routes are a several-hour drive away from Lahaina (road to Hana). This is close to resorts and has some nice overlooks, but no really stunning destinations or features.

That said, it is still a beautiful run through greenery that changes dramatically as you go up. The trail goes much further than we did, so continue on to explore more. It was a great way to spend 3-4 hours running in a rainforest-like scene.

Lots of interesting plants and trees that change as you go up.
