Overview
This loop cruises along Chicareta Creek, then up to an old TV antenna slab with a great view out the Penasquitos Valley out to the coast.
Need to Know
Please use caution for mountain bikers along this trail; it's heavily trafficked and there are a few blind turns.
Description
Start in the neighborhood or at the elementary school down to Chicareta Creek trail. This is a good warm-up for the rest. Leaving the Creek Trail, make a right turn onto the road and then a left up to Ted Williams and follow the on-ramp up to another trail entrance.
Once on the dirt again, make a left and follow the trail up behind Shoal Creek elementary school, then hook a double right and follow the mountain bike trail up to the slab (USE CAUTION FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS).
Continue past the slab and along the ridge and take a right at the fork. Follow the rest of the ridgeline until it drops back down to the park behind Morning Creek Elementary school.
History & Background
The slab was a TV antenna repeter for the city of Poway, as the peak it is on (now known as Van Dam Peak) was obstructing line of sight from Black Mountain.
