The Green Mountain Trail has a steep beginning when leaving Otter Creek Trail (TR 131) with many slick rocks, as there are many springs along the way. It then gives way to a flatter area of very lush rhododendron that at times is only penetrable via the trail, which often follows small streams.

The entire trail is under shade during the summer and has a feel of mystery with so little visibility and so many avian songs mixed with times of absolute silence. The understory is thick enough to be in contact with you most of the time as you make your way to the junction with the Shavers Mountain Trail (TR 129). There is a nice and level, Norway spruce-sheltered campground near the junction with Possession Camp Trail (TR 158). The trail is not marked with signs nor blazed, although it's so worn as to be obvious.

Eastern deciduous trees such as maple, oak, birch, and mountain laurel with Norway spruce. There is a lush understory of various plants dominated by rhododendron and fern. The fauna include deer, rodents, amphibians, and butterflies.
