Overview
Description
Begin at the Sugar Loaf Sledding Hill and follow the grass line along the two large parking lots down to the trees. Once in the trees, follow the grassy trail until you see a sign for
Baughman Trail at about mile 1. Take the right-hand turn, crossing the paved road, to begin on
Baughman Trail. At around mile 2, you'll pass the Baughman Overlook - be sure to take a quick run up the rock slope to view the Yough River valley!
From the overlook, you'll follow
Baughman Trail for two more miles to the
Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) rail trail (bike trail). Make a left onto the GAP, and follow it to the old train station/visitor center (restrooms here). Exit the GAP before crossing the high bridge, cross the main road, Route 381, and run all the way to the magnificent Ohiopyle Falls Overlook/Viewing Area, a wonderful way to end a fast downhill run. If you're a mountain biker, set your own shuttle for this point-to-point run and bike your way back up the same way you came (or vice versa).
Flora & Fauna
Rhododendrons, mountain laurels, maples, poplars, oaks.
