Off-trail travel; be prepared and exercise caution. Park on the road.
Need to Know
Park on the road and run cross country. A bit tricky crossing the creek, but there are some decent logs to cross upon.
Oh, because this ends up in Desolation Wilderness, it is advisable to pick up a Wilderness pass at the
Twin Lakes Trail #16E12 before taking this route. This way, one will not get in trouble if one runs across a ranger within the wilderness.
Runner Notes
Very unstable footing, especially in the boulder field at the end.
Description
I went scouting for a path that would bypass the dog leash area around Wrights Lake. Opted to do a ridge run towards Grouse Lake.
A very challenging route along the ridge that bypasses Wrights Lake. The trail is NOT marked, but one can make out the small game trail that runs from open space to open space. At the top and bottom of each open space, one should be able to find a VERY narrow game trail path.
At the top, one can continue more eastward to hit Lost Lake. I opted to hit the trail quickly and headed due north.
Top cut-over is through a huge boulder field once the last bit of brush is navigated.
Flora & Fauna
Open to everything in the wild. Found numerous deer droppings and great flowers blooming.
