Overview
This loop includes some amazing views, some road running to pick up the speed, and some amazing downhill canyon running.
Need to Know
If you want to park at the Ghost Town, there is a parking fee; however, there is free parking down the road.
Description
The loop starts at the Calico Ghost town and heads south onto an early road section along Ghost Town Road and Yermo Cutoff, then takes a slight right onto some sandy wash. This is tougher running than you might think. It follows Ft Irwin Road until it makes a right back east after the mountain range.
Here, you finally feel like you are going to enjoy some seclusion. The trail winds around the north side of the range for a bit and then suddenly starts getting technical. Here, you'll find some of the most fun rock running I've done in a race! I was able to blast by a few runners who were walking due to the rocks.
From here, the trail zig-zags near the endm and you finish back in the town. Overall, this course makes for a gorgeous, "off-the-beaten" path run.
History & Background
Calico's Ghost Town was founded in 1881. It is a historic silver mining town.
