Overview
This easy run hits the higlights of the
Jemison Park Trail. From shaded woodland paths, to a scenic crossing of Shades Creek to a stop off at the historic Shades Creek Old Mill, this out-and-back run hits all the highlights of Jemison Park.
Description
Starting from the northeastern end of the
Jemison Park Trail, find on-street parking (note there is not a dedicated trailhead so you may have to get a little creative about your starting point). From here, pick up the trail on the north side of Overbrook Road.
You'll immediately enter what at times feels like a tunnel of trees and be running along a wide, well-maintained path that follows along Shades Creek. The creek adds a pleasant aspect to your run.
At just over 0.5 miles you'll cross Overbrook Road and then head over a bridge to cross Shades Creek. From here, the trail roughly parallels Mountain Brook Parkway. Keep an eye open for the point where Shades Creek crosses under the road as this indicates your next highlight,
The Old Mill. Enjoy a stop off at this historic site before turning back the way you came.
As an out-and-back run, you can easily customize the length of your outing based on how far you want to go.
