Overview
It is a beautiful trail that has some nice climbs, and a couple crazy downhills! The Tioga State Forest is a beautiful and green place. While running or hiking you can truly feel how special this State forest is.
Need to Know
I parked at the trailhead entrance, which is 0.5 miles away from the actual start of the race. Parking can be limited, but there is a US Geological Fish Lab down the road you can park at if need be.
Runner Notes
Be prepared for a insanely steep descent and a few stream crossings.
Description
This is about 0.5 miles after the true start of the race, but there is a nice parking area here. Course starts following a beautiful creek on a singletrack trail, and inclines slowly for two miles. Climb up is pretty gradual, but there are some steep sections that you'll need to power through.
Once on the top, you follow a four-wheeling path on op of the mountain for about four miles.
At mile 6, you come across the real gem of this course, "Frankenstein's Forehead." This is a wicked downhill section that will have you slipping on rocks and goes on a lot longer than one would truly enjoy, but the challenge of staying balanced will keep you coming. From there, the course is an easy-to-run singletrack with a few creek crossings.
