Need to Know
There are several access points to enter the Pueblo, including two along the southern side. Use respect for any signs or rope closures, but otherwise it's fascinating to explore the interior of the pueblo!
Description
Begin at the
Pueblo Bonito parking area. Take the paved trail eastward, staying left when the trail to
Chetro Ketl diverges to the right.
Arrive at the southeast corner of the pueblo after 0.15 miles. Turn right along the eastern wall, then rise above a rockfall that crushed the northeast corner of the pueblo. Nearby, a trail diverges right (east) toward petroglyphs.
The trail descends via stairs to pass under the north wall of the pueblo. Near the far north part of the wall, a trail heads northwest (right) to the Wetherill Cemetery. Continue left around the outside of
Pueblo Bonito, turning left again to walk along the flat southern side of the pueblo.
Return to the southeast corner of the pueblo at about mile 0.5. Continue straight to return to your vehicle.
