Trail is open 7 a.m. to sunset. Park is closed Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, and New Year's Day.
Need to Know
Primitive restrooms are located 0.25 miles beyond the gate (across the trail from
Kin Klesto). The
Pueblo del Arroyo Trail begins across the parking area.
Description
The trail begins at the northern end of the main park road (same parking area, but different trailhead, as
Pueblo del Arroyo and the Pueblo Alto Loop). Run 0.1 miles through the desert scrub to the cemetery, which holds the remains of Richard Wetherill (credited with the discovery of Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde), his wife Marietta, and a few others. Wetherill homesteaded the area around
Pueblo Bonito and ran a trading post on the site for a number of years.
Return to the parking area for a 0.1-mile out & back run, or turn right to take the path 0.25 miles to
Pueblo Bonito.
