Description
To start running Pyramid Lake Trail (as shown in this description), from the parking area at the north end of Patricia Lake, cross the road and find a path through the grass to take you to Pyramid Lake Trail. Please do not use paths blocked off for vegetation restoration. Go left on Pyramid Lake Trail and head north toward Pyramid Lake.
Although Pyramid Lake Trail runs along the road, it is nicely placed above the road and/or with trees blocking the road view, so that it feels like a trail. It is much better to run this trail than to run along the road that doesn't have shoulders. Pyramid Lake Trail starts off flat, on a grassy hillside, above the road, with great views of Patricia Lake and its surrounding mountains.
Leaving Patricia Lake behind, the trail remains flat, crossing grass dotted with firs, for the first half mile. It then begins gradually climbing a small hill as it nears Pyramid Lake and Pyramid Lake Resort. Pyramid Lake is to the left/west, across the road. At about the 0.5 mile mark, Pyramid Lake Resort is passed on the right.
Continuing on, as Pyramid Lake Trail runs along Pyramid Lake (that is across the road) there are great views of the lake from here to the end of the trail. At the 0.8 mile mark, the top of the small hill is reached, and the trail then descends gradual for the rest of its journey. Pyramid Island with its
Pyramid Island Trail, is passed across the road on the left/west, at the 1.2 mile mark.
Pyramid Lake Trail then ends a short 0.1 miles later at a large parking area. Other trails are also accessed at this parking area, so one can combine Pyramid Lake Trail to make a variety of runs. Please drop by the Visitor Information Centre in Jasper to get a complete trail map.
