Runner Notes
A good, even trail.
Description
When put together with the
Greenstone Track and the
Caples Track this makes for a great day run loop trail.
From the parking lot, you jump on the
Caples Track and very quickly turn left and cross a bridge to the trail. The first mile sends you through open grasslands until you pull up along Lake Wakatipu. You'll stay on a ridge above the lake in beech forest until you drop down to Elfin Bay.
From here the trail builds up and cuts west into a valley with thick forest. After about a mile of mostly uphill, you drop back down to Lake Rere. Skirt the edge of the lake until you start to curve down along side a hill and you arrive at the Greenstone River.
Make your way along the river until you drop down to meet the a suspension bridge that crossing the river. On the otherside of the bridge you can jump on the
Greenstone Track which you can take down river to get back to the parking lot.
Flora & Fauna
