Upper Cliffbrake is a foot-traffic only trail that leads to the upper climbing area and east summit of Rattlesnake Ridge.
Need to Know
There are no trash cans or bathrooms on site. Please pack out what you pack in. The closest amenities are about 1 mile away at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The parking area is small (~10 cars) and parking is not allowed outside the parking area. The automatic gate opens just before sunrise, and closes just after.
There is a wet weather closure plan implemented at Rattlesnake Ridge. During inclement weather, check the Rattlesnake Ridge Trail Information page for the latest conditions or closures. Volunteer events will also be posted there.
Description
The upper section of Cliffbrake accesses the east summit of Rattlesnake Ridge and the climbing area and is foot traffic only. The trail climbs/traverses through a high cliff area and is potentially dangerous for young children.
From the junction with Diamondback, continue up and right on Cliffbrake. The trail climbs for a few minutes before catching a set of stone stairs up to the climbing area. From the climbing area, follow the trail to the right along the base of the bluff until you come to a large ledge up and to the left at a break in the cliff.
Follow the trail up and over this ledge along a small goat trail through the bluff. The top of the climbing area offers views to the south, or you can continue on the trail towards the east summit of Rattlesnake Ridge.
